There are several federal and provincial disability benefits programs available for persons living with long-term medical conditions. They include the following:

There are four steps to collecting the disability benefits.
Determine a person's eligibility to collect from the various programs. Each program has its own criteria for qualification.

Receive confirmation on a person's eligibility. If a person is not eligible, they will be informed as to the reason(s) why and directed to the appropriate resources to improve their eligibility, if applicable.

For a person that is eligible to collect disability benefits, they must apply to capture each benefit. In some cases, there are unclaimed amounts from previous years of eligibility that may be collected retroactively, depending on the program.
After confirming eligibility and applying for the benefit, a person may begin participating in the program. It is important to note that some programs require reapplication at various intervals to continue receiving the benefit.
